Ian's Story - June 25, 2007
I have always wanted to start my own business, though I never thought that would happen during my high school years. I now had that amazing opportunity. As Brian helped the four of us solidify our business plans for the summer I just couldn’t help think of the possibilities. But when it came right down to it, I was nervous about any one I choose. I finally found one I believe had the most potential, steam cleaning. I realize it might not be the most exciting thing to do over the summer. However, I also realize that with the potential it has if I put the work into it there is no measure to what I can get out of it.
It was a late night trying to finish up my miniature business plan to present to the mentors the following day. I just couldn’t seem to put it down on paper. It was all there the right words just didn’t come. Pitching a business plan isn’t exactly something I am use to. Just a little outside my comfort zone. But, I knew the outcome would be well worth it. I did my best to finish up best I could. When I was finally satisfied with what I had finished I hit the hay. Tomorrow would an interesting day, one that I was anxious to finally see arrive.
As we sat in our conference room munching on delicious appetizers, the amount of information was overwhelming. I couldn’t believe how quickly they had brought up so many thoughts and ideas to improve my business in the little time they spent talking about it. I felt I was in the company of some of the most extraordinarily business savvy minds in Utah. After pitching my business to the mentors the excitement was just too much. I gathered loads of extremely helpful feedback and advice. I couldn’t wait to start! With the information the mentors had provided me, I felt more confident in what I was doing. In one week I would be the owner of my very own thriving business, Stansbury Steamer.
