Overview

Each year YEA awards a Young Entrepreneur of the Year award to the students who best exhibits the entrepreneurial spirit by creating a business concept, develop a successful plan, and executing that plan in a successful manner. The business itself must be owned 100% by individuals under 19 years of age and the applicant him/herself must own at least 50% of the company. The intent of this award is to identify those students who have started and are currently running their own business in the most successful manner. While profitability is a factor, it is not the only consideration for this award.

Submission Requirements

The requirements for this award are loosely structured and open to a variety of interpretation. Feel free to get creative and really sell yourself. The application itself will consist of four parts.
Part One: A completed, signed copy of the “Student Application.”
Part Two: Applicants should include a brief description of the activities of their business to date. Including, but not limited to a description of current operations, historical financials, current products, current customers, number of products sold, product margins, current organization structure, founder biographies etc. This section is a historical summary of the ongoing business and should include most of the elements detailed in a normal business plan.
Part Three: This section details the student’s plan to move forward, grow the business, and make it more profitable and more successful. This section could include information on new products, geographic expansion, projected financials, sales / marketing strategy, etc.
Part Four: (Essay - 1,000 words maximum) A brief essay explaining what has been the most useful lesson you have learned in starting your own business.
