Overview

This is not a writing contest. There are no requirements placed on margins, font size, number of pages, etc. Instead, the student must clearly present his/her business case in a complete and compelling format. Special emphasis will be given to the appropriateness of the business concept as well as the student’s demonstrated ability to carry that business plan through to completion. Applicants will not necessarily be docked for spelling errors, typos, etc. as the focus will be on the thoroughness of the plan itself. However, students should take every precaution to make sure that all documentation demonstrates the high standard of professionalism that the student intends to exhibit in the operations of the actual business.

Submission Requirements

Like all successful business plans, the student must clearly state the product and/or service being offered. The market being served, operational details on how the product and/or service will be delivered, how quality will be maintained, a clear marketing plan that explains the value proposition, marketing message, method of delivery, and any other relevant details. Financials should include a 3-year income statement. While not required, cash flow statements and balance sheets may also be included. The applicant should also clearly outline the amount of capital needed to start the business, how the capital will be used and repaid, and the targeted source of that capital. Optional items may include photos of the product or service, maps, timeline of key events, historical summary of operations to date, brief background of the entrepreneur and other management team members. In short, include any items that may be appropriate for explaining your business.
